Story of an architectural project

You might be thinking of renovating or designing from scratch. Where do you start? What's involved in preparing a brief, setting a budget or planning for a renovation? What’s really involved in working with an architect? Is it worth it? How do you source a builder and how do you know if the price is right?

Hear from homeowners who have worked with an architect, and what they learned from the experience.

Evonne Kalafatas, Bardwell Park

Evonne Kalafatas shares her story, and that of her partner Tony and their children, in working with architect Hannah Tribe to design for family life in Sydney's Bardwell Park. Can a backyard extension be light filled? Can we design to bring the outdoors in? Find out why even the bricks used in this addition to a 1950's bungalow have a special meaning to Evonne and her family.

Liana Rigon

Liana Rigon, parter Troy and energetic son Charlie were the first to own their new apartment in the Frank Stanisic-designed 'Mondrian' apartments in Alexandria. From a carefree couple with time on their hands, to a small family keen to access schools, parks and friends, Liana's advice is that apartments designed well can cater for the inevitable changes we all experience. We introduced Liana Rigon to Frank Stanisic, and learnt more about how the design and Liana's living are a perfect match.

Matt Kelaher

Matt Kelaher worked with architect Eva-Marie Prineas to transform a run-down Califormia bungalow in Sydney for a young family. But instead of the two-storey addition they expected, this extension used more of the house they had to keep a better connection on one level.
