Understanding the Sensual Aspects of Timeless Architecture

Paulo Macchia / 2008

Europe, Africa

The aim of the report is to gain an understanding of what gives certain architecture an apparent ‘timeless’ quality. It provides a first-hand understanding of this phenomenon, with particular attention to the sensual experience. The author visited three cities; Istanbul, Rome and Cairo, and discusses two spaces from each city which are considered to be timeless and best contribute to gaining and understanding of the quality timelessness.

The report includes a series of sculptural maquettes to aid this understanding.
