Emeritus Professor Helen Lochhead AO – 2024 Australia Day Honours

Professor Helen Lochhead, Deputy President and elected architect member of the NSW ARB Board, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2024 Australia Day Honours.

Professor Lochhead is a highly respected architect with 30 years of experience as a practitioner and educator and has served as Dean, Faculty of Built Environment and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Precincts at UNSW, as National President for the Australian Institute of Architects, and on various government panels and committees.

Her AO recognises her exceptional contributions to architecture and urban design, as well as to building regulation reform and education.

As the Board’s Deputy President, Professor Lochhead draws on her breadth of experience and understanding of the profession, government, industry, and educational contexts to provide significant leadership, and invaluable guidance and direction in the operation of the Architects Act 2003. She plays an instrumental role in upholding the standards of architectural practice and advocating for the profession's continued growth and excellence.

At a time of increasing complexity and competition and intensifying regulation of the construction sector, Professor Lochhead is tireless in her efforts to support registered architects, architectural education, and the continuing professional development of architects to ensure the value of architects as professionals remains secure.

We are honoured to have Professor Lochhead as a leader of our Board and congratulate her on this well-deserved national recognition. Her achievements are not only a personal success but an inspiration to the architectural community in NSW and across Australia. We look forward to her ongoing contributions to the Board and architecture profession.
