A study of five urban renewal projects in major cities where the creative industries have been used as the catalyst for change; the Queen Street Studios in Chippendale, NSW, Renew Newcastle in Newcastle, NSW, 22@Barcelona Poblenou in Barcelona, The Old Trumany Brewery in London and Dumbo in Brooklyn.

The creative industries have proved a powerful catalysts for urban renewal. Though the lens of five local and international renewal projects, this research aims to identify the organic conditions required for successful models of urban transformation. Each case study examines a different approach and strategy for urban renewal that leverages off the creative industries. Case studies range in scale and affect, with some strategies having more success than others.
