Quasiperiodic Tilings

This a close study of the mathematics of tiling geometry. It explores periodic tiling, which can be repeated and quasiperiodic tiling, using shapes with a five fold symmetry. The mathematics of the Penrose system and the girith theory are explored through the tiling patterning of Iran’s mosques. It models variations of periodic and quasiperiodic patterns using computer programs and explores two-dimensional and three- dimensional design options using these combinations.

The recipient travelled to Iran in 2008 to study traditional tile pattern, particularly in the Friday Mosque, Esfahan.
