Housing the subjects of tomorrow

Housing, Urban Planning
Iran

The goal of this project was to examine the urban model of the town as an apparatus of governance and a means for securing the subjects of tomorrow.

It examines ways in which a domestic unit can become the site for different practices of power, ranging from the control of individuals by a state to resistance against domination by residents. The study develops through a close reading of the urban model of the town in the 1970s Iran, the approach of Iran’s first National Housing Development Plan, proposed by the office of Constantinos A. Doxiadis and its realisation. The concluding section is an attempt to use the findings of the research for the contemporary condition of Australia and to examine the emergence of new kinds of inequalities.
