Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarships (BHTS)
Applications for the 2007 Scholarships close on 31 August 2007. The Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarships enable winners to undertake a course of travel, study, research or other activity approved by the Board that contributes to the advancement of architecture. All winners must be resident in NSW and graduates (or studying) at a NSW university.

Each year two scholarships valued up to $39,000 are awarded to architects; one scholarship up to $8,000 is awarded to a recent graduate in architecture (past five years). Four scholarships of $4,000 are awarded to a student from each of the four schools of architecture in NSW who has completed the first tier of a two-tier program or the third year of a five-year program, nominated by their respective heads of program/school.

This year the application process for architects has been amended to encourage an increase in the number and quality of applications from architects. Download 2007application forms or contact Mae Cruz, Deputy Registrar.

Inaugural Sydney Architecture Festival
Together with the RAIA, AAA and the NSW Government Architect’s Office we will be presenting the inaugural Sydney Architecture Festival on Monday 1 October 2007. The Festival will be focussed around the Customs House precinct and highlights of the Festival include a range of talks, tours, and activities aimed at increasing the public’s understanding of architecture and the built environment, particularly focussing on the need to move to a more sustainable environment. We hope that in future years the Festival will grow to encompass a week long series of events across NSW. For more information see www.architecture.com.au or www.architecture.org.au

2007 Client Service Awards
Has your client submitted the completed the application forms nominating you for the 2007 Client Service Award? The Award provides an opportunity for satisfied clients to win recognition for their architect’s service. The selection criteria are focused on common areas of uncertainty and complaint by consumers about architectural services: - communication and information; design processes; and management and contractual fulfilment. This year the architect’s response to environmental sustainability issues is also evaluated.

The Client Service Excellence Award is open to all architects registered in New South Wales. However, the project cannot exceed $4 million and is limited to projects completed in the last two years in NSW. It will be judged by a committee of architects, consumers and industry professionals. To be eligible, architects or architect corporations and firms should have two nominations from clients.

The winning architect will receive a Certificate of Excellence and $5,000 and the clients who nominate the winning architect will also receive a certificate noting their involvement in the Award.

Nominations for the 2007 Award close on 28 September 2007Download more information and nomination forms.

Reducing our carbon emissions
The Board has embarked on a project to become carbon neutral, an achievement that we hope to announce at our Awards Night this year. We envisage one of the outcomes of our endeavours to be the development of a successful model for organisations wishing to move towards carbon neutrality.
