Dr Deborah Dearing recognised with award

President of the NSW Architects Registration Board, Dr Deborah Dearing was awarded the prestigious NSW Chapter President's Prize at the annual NSW Architecture Awards, hosted by the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Chapter.

Presented by the President of the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects, Andrew Nimmo, the award recognises the sustained contribution made by Dr Dearing in the fields of planning and architecture, and across both the public and private sector - with particular reference to her leadership of urban design advocacy and practice in roles within the NSW government to raise standards of urban design in NSW. In 1996, Dearing was founding director of the Urban Design Advisory Service - a self-funding business unit within the Department of Planning which took a ‘consultancy’ approach to time and work. Since then, Dearing has held executive roles at architectural practice Architectus, development company Stockland and the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority.

Dearing completed study in the US, Denmark and Australia. In 1966, Dr Dearing was awarded a Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship for research on Cooperative Housing in Denmark.

In addition to her role as President of the NSW Architects Registration Board, Dr Deborah Dearing is a District Commissioner (North District) with the Greater Sydney Commission.
